Top Hat Partners With Boundless To Bring Affordable Digital Textbooks to Hundreds of Universities
Grants access to content for more than 300,000 students at universities including Harvard, UCLA, Duke and MIT
San Francisco, CA, June 25, 2014 — Top Hat, a mobile and web-based teaching platform that improves learning outcomes in the classroom, today announced an integration with collaborative textbook platform Boundless to bring affordable, digital textbooks to students at the more than 400 universities Top Hat serves, including Harvard, UCLA, Duke and MIT.
Top Hat’s cloud-based technology enables high quality customizable textbooks with peer-reviewed and professor-edited content aligned to a course syllabus. The content is collaborative, allowing professors from around the world to contribute and edit in real-time, customize each textbook to a specific curriculum, teaching style or other criteria and make each book their own.
The partnership integrates content from Boundless — including textbook chapters, PowerPoint slides, discussion questions and interactive exercises — into Top Hat’s widely-adopted teaching platform, creating a powerful single platform from which professors can teach in a more engaged and efficient way.
“We aim to be the dominant platform professors use to teach in the classroom,” said Mike Saligadze, Top Hat co-founder and CEO. “Through our partnership with Boundless, we are bringing cutting-edge textbook technology to hundreds of thousands of university students already using Top Hat.”
“We want to give educators the tools they need to bring affordable and effective teaching resources into their classes,” said Ariel Diaz, Boundless founder and CEO. “This type of deep API-based content integration is something only Boundless can do, and we’re excited to bring our resources to Top Hat’s users.”
The cost for a textbook for Top Hat users is $40, significantly less than the typical $100 to $200 price of a traditional textbook.
